And people need to vent once in a while. And let their feelings speak.

Recently one of my loved ones passed away. A guy’s tree. Such a type of pollard willow that is indestructible. A heart of gold, always ready for someone else. With thorough care, the apple of his eye (a horse) turned 37 years old. Those who know anything about horses know that that is extremely old for this noble animal. But with his concerns, it couldn’t be any other way.

We saw each other practically every day for the past three years, because his horse was in our street. In October he showed up at my door. He sought help to prepare his resume. “Because Ann needs to know exactly how to do it. He reads it so much.”

And yes it was a success, he was allowed to start with the job for which we wrote his CV with accompanying letter together.

Dare to admit that things are not going well

On January 1, a month before his death, I met him. I was shocked at how thin he was. He didn’t look good. I got up the nerve to ask him about it. “How are you doing?”

And he had the audacity to answer: “Not good. Definitely not good.”

Out there we had a deep conversation. It touched me incredibly how hard he was having it and how I hadn’t realized it for two months. But I hadn’t seen him in two months. In a flash on the bike, but really connected as before? No. I still feel how angry I was at myself then

‘Connected’, but not connected

In all the end-of-year hustle and bustle, I hadn’t noticed that anyone in my area needed a chat. We live in a connected world of Snapchat, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook. Everyone around him was just not connected enough to feel that he was in too deep. And had a plan.

As I knew him, the plan was well prepared. The wire around his horse’s pasture renewed, one last time heavy sagging and voila. In the warm stable, by the apple of his eye. Not fifty meters from us his story ended and he went to a new world. Looking for peace of mind and self-peace.

Then a few weeks later you can read what our minister got through with regard to reimbursement of visits to the psychologist. It seemed to me more like a Band-Aid on a festering ulcer. That it is the psychologist who impoverishes instead of a thorough reimbursement without additional obstacles.

You can therefore get a prescription for ten physiotherapy treatments from the GP, but only a series of four times for a visit to the psychologist (which you can then receive twice in 1 year). Real? Then I think that our minister has heavy shares in the pharmaceutical world. You simply cannot weaken a feeling with a pill or four chats of an hour. We must make access to psychologists accessible and affordable.

We’re all just human.

There are times in our lives when something comes along that we need help with to get a handle on our feelings. This applies not only to the types of birch, weeping willow or undergrowth, but also to a powerful pollard willow or oak. If you see someone in your area who is only pips? Take the time to strike up a conversation. Don’t just believe the happy faces on Facebook.

Be well and good. And speak up in time if your feelings are going in directions you can’t control.

We’re all just human.

Love.

Liefs.
